I'd love to put on some pictures of lovely New Bern, but still haven't gotten that part of this program to work. So let me tell you about the Shriner's parade, with all the silly cars and sillier drivers roaring around in the streets to raise money for kids. It's quite the display, with a big feed for the town afterwards. We we there for three days, 23 miles out of the way off the IntraCoastal, but very worthwhile. A nice marina right next to the downtown and lots to do, including the North Carolina Museum and the Governor's mansion.
We waited there an extra day because of some NE winds that pushed a couple feet of water up the Nuesse River in onto the streets. There's no tide here, but the water gets moved around by strong steady wind. We stayed put as Palmico and Albemarle Sounds can be nasty.
Yesterday we set out heading southeast from New Bern knowing that when we turned the corner at Minnesott Point it would change. And it did, 2 - 4' waves on the nose and wind gusting to 30 knots. We didn't have to go far in it, though, and pulled into Oriental, where we anchored right out in front of town and dinghied in.
I'm voting to leave right away this morning while it's calm, but my crew may elect coffee in town. We'll see.
Capt. Jeff
Nothing to say about Oriental?
